British 10k July 2014

British 10k July 2014

A team of 7, which included members of staff from UCLH, gamely took part in the British 10k London Run on Sunday 13th July 2014, to raise money for various projects which UCL Hospitals Charitable Foundation oversees.

The British 10k London Fun Run is a completely unique race which takes place in the heart of the capital featuring spectacular views as it takes runners past famous sites such as Trafalgar Square, St Paul's Cathedral, the London Eye, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. All of our runners completed the race in good times and all were in agreement that there was a great atmosphere amongst the 20,000 runners taking part. UCL Hospitals Charitable Foundation is hugely grateful to all of those who took part in the race and raised vital funds for services across the UCLH NHS Trust.

Hamzah Sheikh (pictured) is currently contracting with the Crohn's Disease Research Team as a Research Administrator and studying CIMA.  Hamzah completed the race in a fantastic 48 minutes; we asked him what inspired him to raise money for Lung Cancer Research and his reply was "I decided to run in support of the Lungs for Living Research fund that is part of UCLH Charitable Foundation as I had read that over 40,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Lung Cancer every year.  I then took my first step towards fundraising by signing up to run my first British 10k.  I hope to raise money to develop new treatments to detect and treat lung cancer at its earliest stages".  Well done Hamzah!

We have 12 places available for this run in July 2015 and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please contact Shirley.Featherstone@uclh.nhs.uk if you would like to run for us, thank you.
