Cancer Centre Opens to the Public

The UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre opened its doors to patients for the first time on 2nd April 2012, offering the most advanced service of its kind in the UK.  Five years ago UCLH commissioned Hopkins Architects to design a world class Cancer Centre with uplifting interior atria and gardens that would provide exemplary care for patients and whole family support services.  Fundraising for this incredible building started not long after, and in 2009 Skanska started to build the Cancer Centre.

The build was completed in 120 weeks and the cancer centre opened on schedule, providing patient care for the first time in April 2012.  The UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre is the first of its kind in the NHS and redefines the way patients are treated, using the best diagnostic and treatment techniques to improve survival rates. Every detail has been designed around the needs of individual patients with more focus on the best treatments, well-being, rehabilitation and cancer survivorship.  Since the Cancer Centre opened its doors we have received an overwhelmingly positive response from patients about the new services. This amazing building was only possible because of the support of people like you, and UCL Hospitals Charitable Foundation cannot thank you enough for your continued support, commitment and generosity. Thank you.
