Take on the challenge of a lifetime in 2021!

Take on the challenge of a lifetime in 2021!

For all of us last year was incredibly hard, but as the sun starts to shine and with a vaccination programme underway we're hoping for clearer skies ahead. We have an array of challenge events taking place over the coming months, and with the great outdoors still the safest place to be, what better way to kickstart your training then to sign up for a challenge of a lifetime?

LAND'S END TO JOHN O’GROATS CYCLE RIDE

8th - 20th June 2021

Cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, the furthest possible distance in the British Isles, this is a classic cycling challenge that many dream of. Starting at Land’s End on the south-westerly tip of England, participants will pedal their way through Cornwall, over Dartmoor and north along the Welsh border, skirting the Lake District into Scotland, via lochs and the Highlands to the North Coast and John O’Groats. In all they will cover almost 1000 miles, passing through some of the most stunning and remote countryside in the British Isles.

For this challenge we ask participants to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £349 and then raise a minimum of £3,000 each.

ASICS LONDON 10K

July 2021 (Date TBC)

A fantastic and fast 10k route around central London past Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus, St James’s Palace and the Theatre Royal. This 10k is regularly cited by running clubs as the best 10k route in all of England. We will allocate places on a first come first served basis.

We ask participants to commit to raising a minimum of £150 each, to go towards our projects.

JURASSIC COAST WEEKEND

3rd - 5th September 2021

Explore staggeringly stunning England on foot! Stretching 95 miles between Old Harry Rocks in Dorset, to Orcombe Point in East Devon, the Jurassic Coast, England’s first Natural World Heritage Site, is the most geologically diverse coastline in the world. The exposed cliff sections reveal 185 million years of history, and with a more recent history of mining, shipwrecks and smuggling, this is a fascinating stretch of coastline. Taking in some of its most spectacular scenery, from the renowned natural stone archway of Durdle Door to the beautiful circular Lulworth Cove, participants will climb and descend the steep hills of the Jurassic Coast, staying at a lovely campsite a short distance from the route.

For this challenge we ask participants to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £80 and then raise a minimum of £600 each.

THE ROYAL PARKS HALF MARATHON

10th October 2021

A scenic 13.1 mile route that winds its way through London’s famous parks, this is a fantastic run that takes place on closed roads, passing through Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. We will allocate places for this run on a first come first served basis – they are usually very popular so don’t delay if you’re keen.

For this challenge we ask participants to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £30 and to raise a minimum of £220 each.

CLASSIC COLS OF THE PYRENEES

7th - 12th September 2021

Cycle the mountains made famous by the Tour de France! This prestigious and extremely tough cycling challenge tackles some of the most legendary cols of the Pyrenees - including the Col d'Aubisque and the Col du Tourmalet - with a few newer climbs in the mix as well. From lush green valleys and picturesque villages to the barren heights among glaciers and jagged peaks, every pedal-stroke piles on the spectacular views. Often considered tougher than their Alpine cousins, the untamed Pyrenean roads shun steady gradients.

For this challenge we ask participants to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £199 and then to raise a minimum of £2,500 each.

We hope that we can help you to make 2021 a year to remember for all the right reasons, and look forward to supporting you along the way. If you are interested in receiving further information about any of these events contact hannah.persaud@nhs.net for more information – equally, if there is a challenge that you would like to do that you don’t see here, let Hannah know and she’ll help to find your dream challenge, or empower you to arrange your own.
